Due to the secure nature of the network, some devices are unable to use the enrollment system to join the Wi-Fi network as they cannot install the security files required to authenticate. Our Engineers can manually authorise most of these types of devices using the MAC Address to allow it to connect, however you will need to locate this information and send it to us using the Device Connection Request Form.
Short for Media Access Control Address, a MAC address is a unique combination of six pairs of letters and/or numbers separated by either dashes or colons. It is used to identify the device on a network. For example, a MAC address may look like 41-C9-AC-C2-D0-06 or FD:6D:43:3B:F0:E8. It will use a combination of the letters A to F and numbers 1 to zero only.
Instructions for locating the MAC Address on several types of devices is shown below. If your device is not listed, check the manufacturer’s website for instructions or consult the manual to locate the MAC address. On some devices the MAC address is also printed on the back of the device next to the serial number or on a label on the box. If your device is controlled by your phone, please include the Private/Phone MAC Address of your phone along with your connection request so we can ensure both devices are added to the same network.
Once you have located the MAC Address, use the Device Connection Request Form to submit your request to our Engineers. As this is a manual process, our Engineers will attend to your request during normal business hours and will reply to your nominated e-mail address with confirmation once the device has been completed. Please ensure to monitor your Inbox for these notifications.
Requesting Connection for Work Laptops: Most employer-supplied work laptops are unable to join the normal TWC WiFi network using the normal procedure due to additional security measures installed by your employers IT Team. In most cases, we can connect the laptop through another method using the MAC Address. Follow the guidance below for your device operating system.
Windows 10: Click the START Button (sometimes called the Microsoft icon). Open SETTINGS, then open NETWORK & INTERNET. Under the ADVANCED NETWORK SETTINGS section, click on HARDWARE AND CONNECTION PROPERTIES section under the MORE SETTINGS section. Locate the section with the name Wi-Fi which should have the WIFI MAC ADDRESS.
Windows 11: Right click on your START menu icon and select NETWORK SETTINGS. Alternatively, search for SETTINGS and open the NETWORK & INTERNET page. Click on the WI-FI option and then select HARDWARE PROPERTIES. Towards the bottom of the page should be your PHYSICAL ADDRESS (MAC).
Macbooks: As many Apple devices do not have a standard location to find this information, follow these general steps. If you are not able to locate the MAC Address following these steps, you may need to check the internet for the appropriate steps for your exact OS version.
Open SYSTEM PREFERENCES then NETWORK, select WI-FI then click on ADVANCED and then HARDWARE. You will see your WIFI MAC ADDRESS listed near the top of this window.
When a phone needs to pair with a streaming console for control, we need to add the phone onto the same network as the console. The actual MAC Address of the phone is required so it can be added onto the same WIFI network the console will use. Most modern mobile phones hide the device’s actual MAC Address from available Wi-Fi networks for security to prevent unauthorised users discovering your phone’s MAC Address. Each manufacturer may have a slightly different procedure for locating this information, so we have some general steps which should help in locating this information. You may need to refer to your device manufacturers support page for more detailed instruction.
iPhones: Apple has not kept section names or locations the same across their various OS versions, so each version may be different. If you cannot locate an area described, you may need to refer to Apple Support for detailed information about the exact OS version used by your device.
1. Open SETTINGS and tap WIFI. Find the blue i button next to the TWC-IOT network and tap it.
2. Turn OFF Private Address.
3. The Wi-Fi Address should now refresh and display the actual MAC Address for the phone.
Android Phones: Each manufacturer is able to change the Android platform to their specifications, so some areas noted below may have different names or be in different places depending on the manufacturer of your device and their Android configuration. If you are unable to locate an area described, you may need to refer to the Support Team for your manufacturer for detailed information about your exact OS version.
1. Open SETTINGS and tap Wi-Fi & NETWORK. On some devices, this might be NETWORK & INTERNET or CONNECTIONS
2. You should be able to see the TWC-IOT network even if you cannot yet join it.
3. Click on the gear icon next to the TWC-IOT network to enter the NETWORK SETTINGS. Some versions of Android may show a 3-vertical dots icon at the top right of the window. Some Android models will not display a gear icon next to the network name until you join the network, especially with Samsung Android. See the * note below for a potential alternative method.
4. When in the network settings area, tap on the ADVANCED and then PRIVACY.
5. Tap on USE DEVICE MAC to display the actual MAC Address of the device for the TWC-IOT network. On some devices, this might be called the PHONE MAC.
6. You may have a MAC Address Type entry showing a Randomised MAC entry. Tap on this and change the option to Phone MAC.
7. Turn Wi-Fi service OFF and then back ON, then return to this section and note the new MAC Address.
*If your device does not display a gear icon next to the TWC-IOT network, try the following to discover the MAC Address: Open SETTINGS and go to ABOUT PHONE then tap STATUS INFORMATION. You should have an entry for the PHONE WI-FI MAC ADDRESS.
For most other devices, general instructions are shown below. Refer to the device manufacturer support page for more detailed instructions if required. Many home devices are designed for plug-and-play connection to less-secure home networks and may not successfully connect to the secure College WiFi network. We’re happy to try, though we are not able to guarantee successful connection for all requested devices.
Wireless Printers: We are unable to securely add printers to the networks at College for your exclusive use. Please connect the printer to your devices using a standard USB cable for printing of documents. Even with the MAC Address of the printer supplied, we do not have a way of ensuring the printer is added to the networks to provide your exclusive use. The printer would be discoverable by all network users, and therefore anyone would be able to send their documents to your printer using up your paper and consumables. The best way to ensure this does not happen is to use a USB cable connection to your laptop when you wish to print anything.

Playstation 5: System>System Settings>Console Information
Xbox One: Settings > Network > Advanced Settings > Wireless MAC address
Xbox 360: System > Network Settings > Configure Network > Additional Settings > Advanced Settings
Nintendo Switch: Home > Internet
Chromecast:
– during Chromecast Setup – From the CONNECT TO WIFI screen of the setup process, in the top right, tap More 3 dot menu icon. Tap Show MAC address.
– after Chromecast setup – Open the Google Home app. Touch and hold your device’s tile. At the top right, tap Settings and then Device information. Under ‘Technical information’, check your MAC address.
Chromecast with Google TV: Google made a change to Chromecast with Google TV in 2023 where the actual MAC Address of the device cannot be determined by the device owner. Therefore, each time the device connects to a Wi-Fi network, it is displaying a different randomised Address. Without the actual device MAC Address, we are not able to successfully authorise these devices on the Wi-Fi network. Until a work-around is found, or Google provides another solution to this issue, we regret that it appears we are not able to successfully enable these devices.
For older models: Turn on your Chromecast with Google TV.. In the top-right corner of your TV screen, select Settings, then System, then About, then Status and finally MAC Address.
Other Media Streaming Devices – Most media streaming devices have the MAC Address printed on the device itself. If the MAC Address sticker is missing, follow the instructions below.
Roku: Settings > About
Amazon Fire Stick: From the home screen, scroll to Settings > System -> About > Network
Apple TV: Main menu > Settings > Wireless ID
Amazon Echo: Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone or computer and sign in with your Amazon account. Connect to the wireless network transmitted by your Echo device. The wireless MAC address for your Echo can be found at the bottom of the Echo Setup screen in the Alexa app.
e-Readers and Tablets
Nook: Tap Nav. Arrow > Settings > Device Info > “About your Nook”
Kindle: Go to Menu > Settings > Menu > Device Info
Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX: Tap Settings > Device
Remarkable: The manufacturer has not provided an easy way to discover the MAC Address of these devices. You can try connecting it to your laptop/phone Hotspot to see if the information can be displayed. Unfortunately, without the MAC Address of the tablet itself, we will not be able to add it to the Wi-Fi network.
iPads and Android tablets should follow the same connection procedure that your computer and phone have used.
